The Spring Creek Association is a private property owners’ association encompassing 5,420 lots and offering rural Nevada residential living with a wide range of amenities. Nestled near the base of the Ruby Mountains, the 23.4-square-mile community of Spring Creek provides residents with access to outstanding outdoor recreation opportunities. Nearby destinations such as Lamoille Canyon, Southfork Reservoir State Park, and Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge are all just a short drive away.
Spring Creek is easily accessible via Lamoille Highway (SR227) from Interstate 80 in Elko, Nevada. New residents are warmly welcomed and bring valuable experience and fresh perspectives. The community features a variety of active youth and adult clubs and organizations. Family-friendly and recreation-oriented, Spring Creek offers many amenities including a stocked private marina with fishing, canoeing, wildlife viewing, covered picnic areas, open space, and playground equipment. Additional facilities include Brent Park, a Sports Complex, Campground, Rifle Range, Horse Palace Equestrian Center, Marina, Golf Course, and Clubhouse. Property owner assessments support the maintenance and operations of these amenities and the overall management of this large and diverse association.
The community includes approximately 150 miles of chip-sealed roads. The Elko County School District operates three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school within the area. Access to healthcare continues to expand, and public safety is supported by the Elko County Sheriff’s Office, the Nevada Division of Forestry, the Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and now includes an Elko County ambulance stationed within Spring Creek. The local business environment supports home-based enterprises and offers a variety of services, including a major grocery store, post office, credit union, dental offices, salons, hardware store, gas stations, convenience stores, restaurants, lounges, fitness centers, legal services, pet grooming, car washes, realty offices, propane services, manufactured home sales, auto repair, building contractors, and multiple churches—with room for new businesses to establish and grow.
Spring Creek, Nevada, located in a valley between the Elko Hills and the Ruby Mountains, has a history deeply intertwined with ranching, community development, and adaptation to its unique high desert environment.
Early History
Before being developed as a modern community, the Spring Creek area was primarily grazing land for Lamoille ranchers. Several small ranches, including the Whear Ranch and the one now known as the "animal farm," were established in the area.
Development as a Planned Community
In the late 1960s, a Texas developer purchased a significant portion of the ranch land with the intention of creating a large subdivision. Spring Creek was developed in the 1970s by C.V. Wood of McCulloch Oil as a planned retirement and recreational community. The community is organized into four tracts, with one section dedicated to mobile homes.
Growth and Community Life
Control of the community was transferred to residents in 1981. Spring Creek High School was built in 1993 due to the area's population growth. The Spring Creek Association organizes community events like the Annual Freedom Festival and Spring Kick-Off Rodeo. Spring Creek is also close to the Ruby Mountains, offering recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, and camping, as well as the South Fork State Recreation Area for boating and fishing. Spring Creek's history illustrates its transformation from agricultural land to a planned community, balancing rural independence and community engagement in its high desert setting.
